Blu-ray officially wins (finally)

1

“It’s official. Toshiba just made a statement saying, ” it will no longer develop, manufacture and market HD DVD players and recorders.” Cessation of the player and recorders are targeted for March 2008. Volume production of HD DVD disk drives for PCs and games will end in the same time frame. However, Atsutoshi Nishida, President and CEO of Toshiba Corporation did say that Toshiba will, “continue to assess the position of notebook PCs with integrated HD DVD drives.” That’s it folks, the format war is over, Blu-ray has won.”

    Knight Rider is back!!!!!!

“…..As the original story resumes, the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand) is absolutely the coolest car ever created: its supercomputer capable of hacking almost any system; its weapons systems efficient; and its body — thanks to its creator’s work and nanotechnology — is capable of actually shifting shape and color. Plus, its artificial intelligence makes it the ideal crime-fighting partner: logical, precise and possessing infinite knowledge. It is the ultimate car — and someone will be willing to do anything to obtain it…..”

Downloadable files coming to next Harry Potter DVD

“Users clamoring for alternate ways to transport commercial DVD footage to portable media players will likely enjoy knowing that the next Harry Potter DVD will reportedly feature “two downloadable digital files” for easy viewing on devices other than a vanilla DVD player. According to Jim Wuthrich, Warner senior VP of digital distribution, users can “buy the DVD and have the option of the digital copy,” and apparently, he also suggested that “another studio was preparing to launch digital copies of a film tied to its DVD release.” Unfortunately, details about the actual formats and whatnot weren’t disclosed, so barring any unforeseen announcements, it looks like we’ll be waiting for the December 11th release of Order of the Phoenix to find out exactly what this disc contains.”

What If the AppleTV became a DVR to spite NBC

    appletv
There has been long standing rumor and speculation that Apple would turn the AppleTV into a DVR. At the time, that never made sense to me…it would do nothing but infuriate the networks that Apple is hoping to keep appeased.

However, with Universal’s continued antagonism towards Apple and vice versa, it’s not going to be long before SOMEONE has to give. Steve Jobs has never been very good at that.

If NBC does jump ship, I think it’s safe to say that sales of other shows will be affected as well, because once people get used to going to Bittorrent (and I do firmly believe that people will be driven to Bittorrent before they are driven to hulu.com or any other asinine service NBC can dream up), they’re going to keep using it. I don’t think everyone will abandon iTunes by any means, but I think Apple can expect a huge sales loss in the video department of the iTunes store without NBC.
