Hands on with the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Nokia’s first attempt to get a piece of the “full touchscreen phone” pie is not too bad. The touchscreen is not as fluid as the one on iPhone, but it does have some nice features. Here’s some of them:

  • 3.2-inch haptic touchscreen display
  • 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus
  • GSM/EDGE radio, 3G UMTS/HSDPA
  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • WiFi
  • GPS
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • TV-out port
  • 140MB on-board storage
  • It will be released in Europe first for $227, and the U.S. “next year” (of course)

iPhone killing the competion

“In its first full quarter of sales, the iPhone has already climbed past Microsoft’s entire lineup of Windows Mobile smartphones in North America, according to figures compiled by Canalys and published by Symbian. That puts the iPhone ahead of smartphones running Symbian, Linux, and the Palm OS, but behind the first place RIM BlackBerry. The figures mesh with retail sales data already reported by NPD, which similarly described the size of the US market with a 27% chunk bit out by Apple’s iPhone.”

Nokia N95 8GB: Best smartphone ever

The utterly black Nokia N95 8GB

“Is this the best smartphone ever made? Yes. You could even drop the ’smart’ bit and call it the ‘best phone ever made’, since this will be sold in High Street shops and picked up, as the original was, by people from all walks of life, most of whom have never even heard the term ’smartphone’. “

Side by side. Note dimpled media keys and larger screen on the 8GB model
