What a dumb design, why didn’t they use cross supports? The Eiffel Tower is a great example. It would have been so much stronger.

Any I agree this is a terrible use of space, they could have built more beneath the runway.

Hey guys,

I just wanted to say Hizzoner was my brother, and that he killed himself recently over the attacks launched against him on this website. He really was a photoshop and airport design expert, which I know is a strange combination but he marched to the beat of a different drummer. The tragic thing is he went to Portugal to confirm whether you guys were telling the truth, it mattered that much to him, and when he saw the runway, he pulled out a knife and sat down on it. You guys win. R.I.P Hizzoner.

This is a very ugly structure, and a shameful destruction of a coastline. I can’t believe that the convenience to the local inhabitants of having a BIG facility which allows BIG planes to land actually outweighs the loss.
